Reducing bandwidth costs for streaming live events

Other than reducing video quality or using a more efficient codec, what are some of the best ways to reduce bandwidth costs for streaming live events?

I’m new to the technicalities of streaming video, but I’ve been reading about multicasting and RTMFP. Are either of those possible with Wowza? And what other options are there?

The RTPPusher module can broadcast to a multicast IP: RTPPusher: package for pushing RTP/MPEG-TS unicast and multicast streams out of Wowza

But, you can not use multicast over the Internet.

You can use a CDN (Content Delivery Network) service so that the only bandwidth you use on your network is to send the stream to the CDN.

There is a concept called “P2P streaming” that is designed to reduce client-server bandwidth.

But, for the most part, the only way to reduce bandwidth is to reduce stream bitrate.

Hi randall,

Is there any known p2p developments using wowza? It would be nice to have something like rather than using 20+ servers!

There are various P2P chat/streaming clients out there. Here’s a list: http://www.scvi.net/stream/soft.htm. Note that you cannot do direct Peer-to-peer communication when the peers are behind NATed firewalls (such as most home users) without forwarding ports on the client’s router.

Friend by decreasing the brand width of the network peer surely you can increases the speed of video streaming but friends the video quality is also decreases with the brand width the alternate option is also available for that do update on windows 7 or operating system which you are using or update your internet browser and flash both and install Microsoft silver light
