Thread: remote server connection

    Exclamation remote server connection

    Hi All,

for the past week I've been developing and testing code across three pc's at my home (so all connecting locally, with Wowza server running on just one of my pc's). All my tests have been successful. Today I tried getting people to connect from remote locations and failed.

For the sake of not needing to show you all my code, I'm now using the original videochat example. Is it possible for someone in a remote location to connect to my wowza server from videochat.html using

    rtmp://[my ip address]/videochat

...? If not, how is this possible? (Please excuse my ignorance, I'm sure I'm missing the point completely).

    Thanks in advance,

    kivanchi

I hate to ask the obvious, but are all NAT and firewall settings correct to allow external traffic?

    Thanks for your reply Ian.

to cut it short, I have no idea! I've had no security messages at any point...where do I start?

You have to log into your router on your home network and forward the ports Wowza uses (1935, and some others you can search for) to the local IP address of your home computer running Wowza(probably 192.168.x.x).

Also, keep in mind, if your computers get their address assigned by DHCP, you probably can't do that. You will have to set a static IP for your Wowza machine.

    Try here:

Thanks ChopSuey...my IP's don't change at home so I don't think a static IP is necessary.

So, in order for my wowza ports to be available remotely, I have to forward those ports to my server ip by loggin into the router? I guess there's more written on this in the forum or in the documentation somewhere...

    thanks again,

    kivanchi

    Hi, guys!
I had problem in this subject.
But Wowza (2.2.3) installed on remote server (on debian) with own ip. If I try connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1935 it's no connecting. By inside that's all right, it's answer me version. What can I do to make my wowza available from internet?
    P.S. Firewall is off.

If the Wowza server is connected to your router, you have to forward port 1935 to the Wowza server in your router. You can check:

    http://[your-external-ipaddress]:1935

You might find guidance for your router here: http://portforward.com/

Aren't you saying that there is an external and internal IP? You can connect with internal IP but not external IP, right?
