    Question SMIL Help

    Hi,
I'm new to all of this so please humor me...and if you covered this in another post, please provide a link.

I'm trying to understand the full scope of using SMIL and have seen many posts...but I need to know if my unerstanding is correct.

I have a library of hundreds and hundreds of videos that I would like to serve to IOS devices at various bit rates. I know that I need to re-encode (no problem) but do I need a separate SMIL file for each video or can this be achieved in one SMIL file with multiple XML nodes?

    Thx,

    Roger

    Roger,

Use one smil file per bitrate set. If you encode a video into 3 bitrate versions, you need one smil file to serve that set as a multi-bitrate stream.

    Thanks Richard...
Do the individual SMIL files need to all be in ONE specified directory or do can they resident in the same directory as the video files?

You can put them side by side in the same folder as the media, which is best, so you do not need any path in the in the video items, just stream name.
