    Default Application / Publishingpoint priority

    Dear Wowza team,

today we had a discussion in our development team if it is possible to prioritize a certain publishingpoint / application concerning availability.

In our scenario we have several applications configured on our Wowza2 server to publish and play a live stream. If we broadcast something on a certain day, let's say a football game, regular viewers will have the possibility to view the live stream on a web page based on a publishingpoint called publicstream. The number of concurrent viewers is limited to X users via configuration file. On the other hand we have a second transmission to a different publishingpoint from the same event, let's call the application premiumstream.

Is it somehow possible to ensure that the premiumstream will be available with primary focus even if the viewer limit is misconfigured and overestimated or the currently available bandwith will not be enough to satisfy all requests for the publicstream and the premiumstream? The premiumstream should be protected as good as possible.

I know the best solution would be to use two different servers with independent Wowza server instances, and additional QoS metrics on the network but in this case we do not have this option so we have to rely on all features and experiences Wowza users already had concerning a scenario like that.

    Any suggestions?

    André

    André,

I'm not sure what you mean by "primary focus", that sounds more like a client-side arrangement. In any case, it is not going to be possible to ensure anything if "viewer limit is misconfigured and overestimated or the currently available bandwith will not be enough to satisfy all requests for the publicstream and the premiumstream".

For Flash RTMP live encoders you can use ModuleRTMPAuthenticate to protect publishing point, and for Flash RTMP clients you can use SecureToken, both part of the MediaSecurity Addon:
