Thread: DVR Functionality

    Default DVR Functionality

The latest Adobe Media Server has a 'DVR' feature that is described as "Create high definition DVR functionality with new support for H.264 stream recording. Pause a live stream, or seek backwards into the video that was missed."

In our video project, we need random frame level access that we can get from streaming, but we also expect the user to be jumping around a great deal and would like to take advantage of a client side cache that is implied by the description of the DVR feature. This would be used in conjunction with video playback as well as playback of recorded audio streams.

Are there any plans to add a similar DVR feature in Wowza? I'm not sure how client side caching is implemented server side, it seems more like a flash player configuration than a streaming server issue. Please correct me if I'm wrong and assuming too much about the Adobe implementation. So far I've stayed loyal to wowza and haven't tested out the Adobe server yet.

I don't know enough about it to comment on the specifics of the implementation. It is a feature we are strongly considering for a future release. No definitive timeframe as of yet.

I saw the new dvr button in the adobe media encoder app and wondered what it was this whole time.

    Then I found

    This looks AWESOME!

As there is now a new vs. of wowza installed on my server today, can I do this dvr with wowza?

(I have zero idea how to make the above files work with wowza or where to put them, but I figured the code would be a good reference just in case we can do this now)

    thanks

Wowza Pro does not support the DVR functionality yet. It is something we are investigating adding in a future release.

Do you have a conservative estimate of when Wowza Pro will support DVR functionality?
