Maximum data connections

I'm just wondering if there have been any tests run or if anyone knows of any java ceilings to know how many data connections a wowza server could handle. I'm not talking streaming connections.. but purely data connections. For example.. a chat application.

We talking about 5000 or 10,000 or maybe more? Not sure if java would be the limiter here with file descriptors or if it's something else.

I'd be interested in per instance as well as overall server capacity.

Well I guess I'll respond to my own thread.. but it looks like I was only able to get 850 data (rtmp) connections to my Wowza 2.0 server. This seems rather low and I'll continue to test.. but I'd expect more than that...

With the same app testing against and old FMS 2.0 box I was able to get 2000.

Of course it depends on the bandwidth, ram, etc.

Do be sure to tune. I would expect you to get 10's of thousands of connections. What is your app doing? The tuning guide is here:

I was hoping it would support that as well.. I was testing Wowza 2.0 and FMS 2 on the same physical box and so ram/cpu etc was not the issue.

I'll check out the tuning guide but essentially all I'm doing with the app is connecting to a default app ... that's it. No logic beyond that.

I can supply the app to you Charlie for you to test with.. either as an air app or simple flex web app.

WOW.. talk about a massive difference. I was able to get 3200 connections open to it.. but I'm going to see how far I can push this. I'll update with results.

Latest and last update.. I was able to get about 8300 connections with a tuned box. It's not super beefy.. it only has 2 gig of ram and it's 32 bit.. so I'm really happy with that number.
