Play live stream on windows media player

How to Play a live stream on windows media player?

Windows media player doesn’t work with Wowza.

Richard

No, sorry, Windows Media Player is not support.

Richard

As far as I know, it is still not supported. If you are targeting WP8, you need a Silverlight player. Take a look at the SMF framework

Is there any way to play live stream in the Windows Media Player ?

Is there any updates on this?

We want to use wowza stream to play on windows iphone 8 native player.

Which streams we can use ?

Is there a new update on whether Wowza works with Windows media player?

Can you post a list of media players it does work with?

Andrea

Wowza Streaming Engine can deliver H.264 video with stereo AAC content using RTMP, RTSP, Apple HLS, MPEG-DASH, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, and Adobe HDS.

Windows Media Player supports RTSP but only from a Microsoft Windows Media Services server as it is a closed streaming media ecosystem. Windows Media Player will not work with Wowza Streaming Engine or other streaming engines. Windows Media Services supports only Windows Media. JPEG, and MP3 audio.

Windows Media Services:

I have tested interoperability between Windows Media Player and Wowza Streaming Engine when connecting to an mp3 file via RTSP. Microsoft’s Windows Media Player is using a proprietary version or an “embrace and extend” version of RTSP.

Windows Media Services: Microsoft streaming server previously included with Windows Server that uses RTSP modified with Windows Media extensions:

As Microsoft Windows Media Services have been replaced with IIS Media Services, Microsoft recommends that people to move from Windows Media Player to Silverlight which requires an embedded player:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/media/windows-media-services/microsoft-media-platform-encoding-and-serving-choices-and-migration-considerations

It is recommended to use an embedded web based player for playback. Below are our recommendations.

You can use VLC for playback, however that is typically used for testing. In addition the viewer would have to download and install VLC to play back your content.
