Live Streaming from DVB.

I want to accomplish a simple goal, to stream TV channel (say for example, Al-Jazeera) over the internet.

What options is best suitable to use for this case? And if there is any possible option to use to encode directly from one of those components:

LNB (Directly from Satellite Dish)

DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) receiver for free to air channels

STB (Set Top Box, which I believe is the same as DVB)

My requirements are:

• Stream from TV channel to internet.

• Stream for around 500 user (concrete users might be around 100).

• Stream to different media types (Windows, Mac, Linux, Tablets, Android mobiles, iPhone…etc).

• Easiest and cheapest setup available.

I have no past experience in the subject, but using my research skills I’m thinking of adopting the following solution:

Connect the DVB Audio/Video output to a video capturing device that will encode the incoming data and send it to a streaming server, using the below components.

Streaming Server: Wowza Streaming Server 2.2.3 for the streaming service.

Encoder using one of the following options:

1- encode using a PCI/e card by getting one of those cards: http://www.viewcast.com/products/osprey-cards

For the encoding side the PCI/e card into a PC with enough CPU, so Quad core, and then use either Wirecast, Flash Media Live Encoder or another application to capture the audio/video and push it to Wowza. Personally a USB dongle will be waste of time as the quality and control over the encoding will more than likely be minimal.

For the stream server side, so Wowza itself, a similar spec is fine, however at least 8 gigs of RAM.

What are you using to tune the DVB stream? If it has HDMI output, I’d highly recommend a Decklink Studio card with HDMI input. Osprey cards are good value for the money if you’re tuning a component or analog signal (I have a couple of 210 and 230e cards in use and love them).

well, so far I haven’t decided yet, but I think I’ll just stick to the Osprey cards for now, in order to lower the cost of my project, I’ll give the HDMI output a go if I was able to get enough funding for that
