Playstation3 supports rtmp/h.264

I have an PS3 here running a live stream from wowza. Is there someone with some more experience with STBs or gameconsoles and Wowza?

Gameconsoles could, and probably will be, an interesting market for IP streaming.

See also Playon, and the initiatives from Netflix and others to get on the PS3, Wii and XBOX.

I’ve also tried to stream to the PS3, is your video also stuttering?

(1280x720, H.264 with 2,5Mbit/s and JW Player)

I think it’s a problem of the flash implementation on the playstation…

It would be nice to know if there are settings where it runs smooth.

I have not done any stream to the PS3 nor do I own one. So I am not much help here.

900 kb/s is just too big for many internet connections. Stuttering confirms that in your case. Between 400 and 500 kb/s is considered optimal if you have to choose one, if you are not doing bandwidth checking (or dynamic streaming using Wowza Advanced Server 2)

It’s my information (no experience) that on PS3 you have to use an html page with object and/or embed tag pointing to swf, the same as you would on a web server.

Same problem here, h264@900kbps, full D1 and JWplayer. Video plays not completely smooth.

Bandwidth isn’t the problem - the playstation is connected over a dedicated gbit line to the streaming server - and youtube videos are also stuttering…

Flash player version into PS3 is older, the last update is version 9

Sorry to kick up such an old topic, but how do you configure the PS3 to actually play the stream? I’ve used rtmp://serveraddress/application/instance but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

I already have the latest firmware. When I type in the url as described above it doesn’t do anything. If I load up the page which actually has the flash player running it says Application not supported or something similar…

Thanks! That did the job
