Live Audio PLayers for HTML5

So, getting an RTMP stream into Wowza seems simple enough … picking up an RTMP stream out of Wowza is similarly quite easy … no problems so far. To be fair, this is also dead simple in my existing server, so no surprises so far.

Where I am hoping for an improvement is playback on HTML5 equipped browsers on tablets … so Android and iOS devices … possibly on PC too. So far, zero success. I have tried raising support tickets in the past and viewing the available info, but nothing of any use so far, everything seems to be related to video playback, or file streaming … I want low-latency audio-only playback …

Any clues or sample html snippets very welcome.

Hello Robin,

Regarding playing back an audio only stream, I would suggest looking into Wowza Player. It has a special UI specifically designed to playback audio only HLS streams. Here is a screenshot of how it looks.

Yes, I tried this, I used the url: http://myserver/myapp/demo/playlist.m3u8

I did the audio-only thing … I did the settings to the CupertinoPacektizer as per the instructions on that page, and it doesn’t work … no audio arrived, but if I connect an rtmp client it;s fine, so my so my RTMP source is sending …

I did notice that the automatic URL in the Wowza manager for the Wowza Player shows the local IP of the server, rather than the public IP on the AWS firewall, dunno if that is involved? I obviously used the public IP in my URL, it worked fine for the rtmp clients.

I already know Wowza can provide various output formats … this is not new. This is the way Wowza advertises the “stream once, play on many different types of devices” … but … there is absolutley NO information HOW to get it to play on these devices. All I want is a code snippet for HTML5 showing WHAT i need to to do get my LIVE AUDIO stream to play … NO ONE seems to know.

In the end, Wowza MIGHT have the capability to provide these services, but without the client side code it is useless.

Wowza is like a new mobile phone network with better speed, better coverage, great quality … and no handsets.
