Firewall vs camera

Hi,

I want to install our Wowza server in a DMZ and I’m trying to figure out in which way is configured the firewall between Wowza in the DMZ and an IP camera located in another zone. As I understand it, Wowza initiates the communication with the camera and not the camera with Wowza. Is that it?

It also seems possible to connect Wowza with Luxriot (also in another zone). In that case, what product initiates the communication with the other?

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for contacting the Wowza Community!

It depends on how you set this up. If your camera already has a streaming link, then yes Wowza will PULL from the camera. You will need to make sure Wowza has PULL access from the camera network to the Wowza network.

If you can configure the camera to PUSH then the camera is PUSHING to Wowza and the camera is connecting to Wowza. You will need to make sure that the camera can PUSH to Wowza.

Hope this helps. If any further questions, feel free to contact us.

regards,

Jermaine

Hi,

My main concern is the security between the DMZ and other zones. To initiate a connection from the DMZ to other zones is not correct for us.

I read that you can auto-reconnect with the PULL method. But is in the wrong way for us because it initiate the connection from the DMZ to other zones where our cameras are. To use this method safely, I have to install the cameras in the DMZ.

For the PUSH method, you wrote “…make sure that the camera can PUSH to Wowza”. Is PUSH method offered on all IP cameras? And does this mean that we could have problems if we briefly loose the connection?

Thanks
