I have the live nDVR recording working and it’s recording as expected, but to to reduce some storage use is there a way to set the quality of the recorded video to be compressed?

Not sure you can transcode just the nDVR stuff unless you’re happy to transcode the entire live + nDVR stream, meaning your live stream would also be of reduced quality.
If you are you could setup two transcodings - one for archival recording, and one for nDVR and live streaming. More CPU load etc etc of course.
