Question by Greg Linton · May 14 at 04:24 PM · on-demand streamingstream

Mbits in vs Mbits out

According to your virtual host monitoring, our inbound bitrate can be as high as 7 Mbits in but only 1.95 Mbits out. Can anyone tell me why this is? We are having problems with the stream being choppy and pixelated on the remote viewer's end.

Hello Greg,

It would be helpful to know more about your source used, resolution/bitrate of source stream. Are your streams being transcoded or just passed through?

With transcoding it could depend on which output rendition is being watched. See the following article for guidance on bitrates recommended for each common resolution size:

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-encode-source-video-for-wowza-streaming-cloud#samples

Best regards,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew. The transcoder was off and I wasn't aware of it. I have turned it back on again and it seems to have done the trick! Thanks for the reply.
