H.323 to Wowza?

I realize this might not be something that should ever be built into Wowza, but it would be such a cool feature that I feel encouraged to write a short note about it in this forum.

Is there any way, or someone planning to do, or some almost existing solution for sending the video and audio from a H.323 video conferencing endpoint to the Wowza Media Server?

I guess some kind of live encoder accepting H.323 (H.264 video) calls as an input would be one way of doing it, but I don’t think there are any around yet?

No, this is not supported in Wowza at present. I think it has been considered and is possible in the future, but I don’t think there is any near term plan to implement.

FYI: As you can see in the Live Encoders section of the Forums, you can purchase technology from Tandberg (the TCS) to connect their conferencing gear to the Wowza Server.

I needed to refresh my memory about H.323 vs. other standards so I did a quick google.

I saw from that search that one can purchase a H.323 <-> SIP gateway. There’s a third party plugin called WSPlugin available which offers a SIP feature for Wowza. I don’t know if this helps you reach your business goals, but it’s an area to investigate and maybe either the SIP plugin or the Tandberg is all you need to reach your conferencing goals. I am looking for a way to stream an H.323 conference to flash. Did this feature get implemented in the new version?

Thanks Richard. For my understanding of Wowza, if I already had a way to stream an H.323 conference in either a Windows Media or Quicktime format could I use the Wowza to restream in Flash format. I guess it would look like H.323>QT or Windows>Wowza Server>Flash
