DVR not working on iOS 8?

Hi

I´ve always used DVR and working fine on iPhone … I just upgrade to iOS8 and I Can’t see time line of the DVR streaming… only show live streaming

I used the same URL http://IP:1935/application/streamname/playlist.m3u8?DVR

Did you know that?

We’re not aware of this issue on iOS 8 but obviously it’s a very new release and may have some differences that need to be taken into account. Please send this to support@wowza.com. This will generate a support ticket for you. If the HSL stream is publicly accessible then please include that if possible. Also can you please also include the following,

  • A ZIP file containing your conf/, logs/, transcoder/ and manager/logs folders. If you are not sure how to get this information please see the following tutorial. Please do make sure you provide logs which show Wowza server starting.

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-create-a-compressed-zip-file-in-windows-os-x-and-linux

  • If you have a live stream please outline the type of encoder in use along with the encoding settings for the stream. If you are using a .stream file to start restreaming please provide this.

  • If you have a on demand stream you may be asked to provide access to the content you are using for further testing. At this stage it is not required.

  • If you are using multiple bitrates (ABR) then please provide the SMIL file associated with your configuration.

Kind regards,

Paul

We are getting several reports from our users experiencing the same problem.

Any status update on this ?

Hi Paul,

Many Iphone/ipad users updates their products the same day its released, so I think its very important to follow up on this.

Its been a month now since we reported this issue.

https://developer.apple.com/support/appstore/ - Over 50% of all I-products has updated the new IOS 8.

Any updates on this bug ?

NEW info on this BUG:

IOS 8.1 is not able to play the stream at all if ?DVR is enabled. We have to remove ?DVR when playing on IOS 8.1.

This is VERY critical!

Hi,

We did file a bug with Apple a while ago with regard to the scrub bar not being present for dvr stream playback.

There is still no update on when they will fix this.

I just did a quick test on an iOS 8.1 device with an nDVR stream and was able to playback the stream (still no scrub bar though).

You’re new issue may be stream specific. Please open a new support ticket by sending an email to support@wowza.com

and reference this forum post, but also mention you are unable to playback an nDVR stream on iOS 8.1

Provide [install-dir]/conf and [install-dir]/logs folders (zipped) attached to your email.

The problem was our player trying to seek to a position, and since the scrubber is gone this fails. So if you have a “seek()” event when using NDVR on Ipad you will experience some issues.

Playback works fine, just did a clean test.

Is this fixed in the most recent version of ios8?

IOS 8.1.1 has the same issue, no scrubber on DVR.

Still gone in version 8.3.

I guess Apple don’t care about their HLS users :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s amazing that Apple can’t fix this. Streaming is being so popular this days , and more in the US (I’m from Mexico) Apple not worry about solving something simple but also is a very good utility for users.

Hi, is the problem solved???

I tested dvr feature two months ago and thrown out because it did not work on iOS (my customers don´t want a feature that does not work in IOS). if not work on iOS, is a worthless.

Have you contact with Apple or investigated where the problem?

Have you got an estimated date that when will it be solved?

Regards

Rubén.

IOS 9 solve the problem or not??

I think that is a Wowza problem not a IOS problem, but maybe I’m wrong.

Hi,

Thanks for the update on your particular case.

WRT the scrubber missing, as soon as we learn anything from Apple about this being fixed, we’ll post here.

Thanks for the update on your particular case.

Daren

Hi,

Not as yet. We will be sure to post as soon as we know this is resolved. Sorry, there isn’t any workaround that we know of.

Daren

Hi,

As per andrew_k above, we have tickets open with Apple, but as yet there is no resolution, and no time frame is available.

Daren

Hi,

We’ll post a note here as soon as we know there’s an update on this bug.

Daren

Hi,

We did test for this in iOS 8.3 and, as you observed, it is still not resolved. There is an existing Radar bug that we submitted with Apple and

do still hope this issue will be fixed in the near future.

Daren

Hi,

This is still not resolved in iOS 9.

As mentioned above, a bug was filed with Apple regarding this issue.

Daren

Hi Daren,

I test in iOS 8.4 also found the same problem.
