Multicasting setup

We are currently experiencing issues with Multicasting.

Our setup is as follows:

  • OBS Studio to capture the video input

  • Wowza Streamining Engine (Hosted on premise) - Version 4.5

  • A bespoke website consuming the feed outputted by Wowza using RTMP (A plugin called Projektor)

Everything works fine using the above and we can see the video playing correctly. The issues we face come into play when we introduce Multicasting/A stream target.

We have followed the documentation, selected our Application and added a Stream Target. The stream target is configured correctly to our Multicast and we have verified this by one of the network engineers. However, we do not see Wowza attempting to connect to the IP address through Wireshark, although we see the traffic coming in from OBS Studio. The status of the stream target within Wowza is always set to “Waiting…”.

We have ensured that traffic is allowed for the RMTP port 1935 and that we are not getting blocked by a firewall.

We have also installed the Wowza Streaming Engine onto another machine and attempted to configure the streaming target to a new Wowza instance rather than Multicast. OBS Studio can connect to the new Wowza instance, however Wowza to Wowza does not communicate, Wireshark does not display a connection attempt and the stream target status displays “Waiting”. We have ensured that the username and password is correct so it is not an authentication issue (And if it was I’d expect to see some traffic denying us via wireshark).

We have looked through conf files for our application specifically at Application.xml and PushPublishMap.txt and cannot see anything obvious missing/incorrectly setup. We have also copied a few settings into the root level (conf) to ensure they are globally applied.

Some next steps are to look within the Application, Server and StartupStream XML files.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Darren Davies

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Wowza Forums!

Regarding the multicast stream and it not working, can you confirm you followed this article? Multicast Article

You can also enable detailed debugging by following this article and check the log files for issues.

Regarding setting up a Wowza to Wowza setup, that is something we would need to take a look at the logs a little closer to see what is going on. You might can look at the logs, located [install_Dir]\logs, and figure out what the issue is. If not, you can submit a support ticket HERE and include the log files of the Wowza server and we can take a look.

Regards,

Jermaine
