Azure PAID License for Transcoder stops working after NVidia Driver installation

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing some strange issue, I hope this is the right place to discuss it. I’m running Wowza Streaming Engine 4.6.0 on an Azure Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit instance, using the provided PAID Streaming Engine template. I’m using an NV instance with NVidia Tesla M60 GPUs. I want to use them for transrating, and so I installed the latest drivers (current 376.33) and CUDA (8.0.44). Before I install them, the transrating runs okay on the CPUs, but when I install them and reboot the machine, in the Web Dashboard I’m seeing “Transcoder: not licensed”. I’m also getting an exception in the log:

Licensing[<app>/_definst_/<stream>]: *** Wowza Transcoder is not licensed. ***: com.wowza.wms.server.LicensingException: Server.license
|at com.wowza.wms.transcoder.model.LiveStreamTranscoder.<init>(LiveStreamTranscoder.java:69)
|at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method)
|at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.java:62)
|at sun.reflect.DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.java:45)
|at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:423)|

The Server.license file is in place and I have not modified it from the Azure installation. I have another Wowza running on an NV Azure instance, I set it up exactly the same way, a couple of weeks ago. I see they’re using the same license key, and the other instance is running just fine. They both have the same driver and CUDA versions installed. The Wowza licensing server is available and reacts to ping. Now I’m wondering what the issue of the second instance could be.

Since the faulty installation newer, could some Windows updates be the culprit?

Can I not use the same license key with two GPU Transcoders?

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any hint is greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance

Hello ro-sch,

I would recommend to uninstalling Wowza (making sure the install directory is clean), then install the GPU drivers, then install Wowza again and add the license key.

If the issue continues, please open a new Support Ticket for further assistance.
