As the provider of one of the premier HLS streaming solutions I thought you guys might be interested in something we’ve been cooking up
Basically, the HLS Client SDK allows a Windows 8 App developer to add HLS support to their Windows 8 app with just a single line of code. After this the XAML MediaElement and HTML video tags used in the app’s markup will just automatically support HLS m3u8 urls.
We think its quite cool as people can now use just one server to serve just one type of stream to all modern mobile devices (iOS, Android, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8), and this will also cover Mac OS X and Windows 8 desktops too.
We’ve been specifically testing it with Wowza, as we are getting a lot of interest from Wowza users
And pleasingly, many of our beta testers are also discovering that HLS to Windows 8 just works better than Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming, which is the normal way to stream to Windows 8.
Anyway, if anyone else is interested in getting access to the SDK, just submit a request on the page I linked to, and we’ll get it out to you
