What does Error 503 Backend is unhealthy refer to

Teachers clicked on their shortcut this morning and encountered Error 503 Backend is unhealthy

Details cache-ord1720 etc…

It looks like if they closed their browser and opened it again it would work. Any anyone explained what happened and how do I prevent it from occurring? Thanks
