How to set up live video recording

This tutorial contains instructions that show how to configure a Wowza Streaming Engine™ live application named videorecording to illustrate advanced video recording capabilities using Adobe Flash Player. This example requires a single computer running Adobe Flash in a web browser and a web camera.

Live video recording configuration

Wowza Streaming Engine Manager Configuration

  1. On the Streaming Engine Manager Welcome page, click the Applications tab at the top of the page, and then click Add Application.
  2. Select Live, enter videorecording as the name of the application, and then click Add.
  3. In the videorecording page, on the Setup tab, select Record all incoming streams, click Save, and then restart the application if prompted to apply the changes.

XML Configuration

Note: If you configured the videorecording application in Wowza Streaming Engine Manager, skip this section.

  1. Create application folder [install-dir]/applications/videorecording.
  2. Create configuration folder [install-dir]/conf/videorecording and copy [install-dir]/conf/Application.xml to this new folder.
  3. Edit the newly copied Application.xml file and make the following changes (some of these settings may already be present):
    • Set the <Streams>/<StreamType> property to:
    • Ensure that <Client>/<Access>/<StreamWriteAccess> is set to the wildcard character (*):
  4. Start the Wowza media server.

Recording and Playback

  1. Double-click [install-dir]/examples/WebcamRecording/FlashRTMPPlayer11/player.html, enter the information below, and then click Connect.
    Server: rtmp://[wowza-ip-address]/videorecording
  2. Click Record, and then after some video has been recorded, click Stop.
  3. To play the recorded video, click Play.

Note: Be sure to give player.html access to your camera and microphone when requested so it can record some video.
