• How to use Sawmill to analyze Wowza Media Server logs

    The Sawmill universal log file analysis tool includes support for Wowza™ media server log files (Wowza Media Server Log Analyzer). To use the Sawmill universal log file analysis and reporting tool with a Wowza media server, follow these steps:

    1. Edit [install-dir]/conf/log4j.properties and add the serverStats logger to log configuration line (first line) of the file like this:
      log4j.rootCategory=INFO, stdout, serverAccess, serverError, serverStats
      The Wowza media server will now write an additional log file named wowzamediaserver_stats.log. This is the best log file for log analysis.
    2. Download and install the Sawmill log file analysis and report tool (http://www.sawmill.net/).
    3. Run Sawmill and import the Wowza Pro logs using the following filter: [install-dir]/logs/wowzamediaserver_stats.log*. [install-dir] is the location of your Wowza media server software installation. Sawmill should recognize the Wowza media server log file format and report it as Wowza Media Server Log Format.
