• How to collect debug information to help debug connection count problems

Gathering information about the number of connections in a process or service can help debug connection count problems. If you believe the Wowza Media Server is under- or over-reporting connection count information either through the ConnectionCounts admin XML or when viewing ConnectionCounts in JConsole/JMX, then follow the instructions below to collect the information that will help Wowza Media Systems debug the problem.

Note: Wowza Media Server™ 3.6.3 (or later) is required.

    Prerequisites

Before you can analyze or debug connection count problems, you must first get the Wowza Media Server into a state where the connection count information might be incorrect. After you've accomplished this, proceed through the following steps.

    Collecting and analyzing debug information

    1. Using a text editor, enter a username/password into the [install-dir]/conf/admin.password file. This username/password will be used to access the serverinfo URL listed below.

    2. When the server is in a state where you feel it is misreporting the connection count information, enter the following URL into a web browser, and then enter the username/password that will access serverinfo:
      http://[wowza-ip-address]:8086/serverinfo

    3. In the browser, use the View source... command to view the XML source of the page.

    4. Save the source, name it serverinfo1.xml, and close the browser.

    5. Wait 2 minutes.

    6. Repeat steps 2-4 (making sure the page is updated with the most recent serverinfo information), and then save the file as serverinfo2.xml

    7. Enter the following URL into a web browser, and then enter the username/password to access connectioncounts:
      http://[wowza-ip-address]:8086/connectioncounts

    8. In the browser, use the View source... command to view the XML source of the page.

    9. Save the source, name it connectioncounts.xml, and close the browser.

    10. Open a command prompt and enter the following command:
      netstat -a > netstatinfo.txt
