• How to connect Wowza GoCoder to Wowza Streaming Cloud

    Wowza GoCoder™, an RTSP-based encoding app for Apple iOS and Android mobile devices, can be used as a video source for live streaming with the Wowza Streaming Cloud™ service. After you've set up a live stream in Wowza Streaming Cloud that uses Wowza GoCoder as its video source, follow these instructions to configure the GoCoder app to send an encoded stream to Wowza Streaming Cloud.

    You can configure the GoCoder app in a number of ways.

    Configure GoCoder using the Connection Code

    The easiest way to configure GoCoder to connect to Wowza Streaming Cloud is to use the Connection Code that appears on the Overview tab of the live stream detail page.

    Note: Using the Connection Code requires Wowza GoCoder 1.5 or later for iOS or Wowza GoCoder 2.0 or later for Android.
    1. In Wowza Streaming Cloud, select the stream that uses Wowza GoCoder as its video source in the Live Streams panel of the Live Streams page.

    2. On the Overview tab of the live stream detail page, make note of the six-digit Connection Code.



    3. Start the GoCoder app on your mobile device.

    4. Tap the Connect button (the Wowza gear icon) in the upper-right corner of the app.

    5. In the Connect To menu, tap Wowza Streaming Cloud.



    6. Enter the Connection Code from the Overview tab of your live stream detail page.

    1. Select the stream that uses Wowza GoCoder as its video source in the Live Streams panel of the Live Streams page.

    2. Click the Video Source and Transcoder tab of the live stream detail page.

    3. Enter a valid email address, and then click Send Configuration URL by Email.



    4. Open the email on the device where the GoCoder app is installed.

    5. Tap the link in the email to configure the GoCoder app.

    6. Enter your Wowza Streaming Cloud password.

    7. Tap Yes when asked if you're sure you want to overwrite existing GoCoder settings.

    1. Select the stream that uses Wowza GoCoder as its video source in the Live Streams panel of the Live Streams page.

    2. Tap the Video Source and Transcoder tab of the live stream detail page.

    3. Tap Auto-configure Wowza GoCoder.




    4. Tap Yes when asked if you're sure you want to overwrite existing GoCoder settings.

    Configure GoCoder manually on a mobile device

    Enter the Source Connection Information from the Overview or Video Source and Transcoder tab of the live stream detail page directly into Wowza GoCoder on your iOS or Android device.



    1. Start the GoCoder app on your mobile device.

    2. Tap the Connect button (the Wowza gear icon) in the upper-right corner of the app.

    3. In the Connect To menu, tap Wowza Streaming Cloud.



    4. Tap Host. For Server enter the Wowza Streaming Cloud Host Server address (without rtsp:// at the start of the URL) and for Port enter the Wowza Streaming Cloud Host Port address. Then, tap Back.



    5. Tap Application, enter the Application and Stream Name, and then tap Back.



    6. Tap Source Authentication and enter the Source Username and Source Password.



    7. Tap Done.

    1. In the Wowza Streaming Cloud web manager, select the live stream that uses GoCoder as its video source in the Live Streams panel of the Live Streams page.

    2. Click Start Stream at the top of the live stream detail page.

    3. Click Start to confirm that you want to start the stream.

      Wowza Streaming Cloud opens the stream and connects with your video source.

    4. Start your video source in the GoCoder app.

    5. Confirm that the connection is working by looking at the Video Snapshot in the Overview tab of the live stream detail page in the Wowza Streaming Cloud web manager.

      The video snapshot displays a frame from the live stream every 5 seconds. The started date and time appear under the snapshot. Source stream, transcoder, and delivery metrics begin to update.



    6. Click Stop Stream at the top of the live stream detail page to end your test stream.

    Manage authentication


    By default, Wowza Streaming Cloud secures GoCoder connections by requiring a username and password to authenticate. You can, however, manage or remove incoming security in Wowza Streaming Cloud.

    1. In the Live Streams panel of the Live Streams page, select the live stream that uses GoCoder as its video source.

    2. Click the Video Source and Transcoder tab and then click Edit.

    3. Under Incoming Security, do any of the following:

      • If you don't want to use authentication with GoCoder, select Disable authentication.

      • If you want to change the username or password, select Change source username and password and enter new values in the Source Username and/or Source Password fields.

    4. Click Save.
