Thread: Live Streaming Questions

    Default Live Streaming Questions

I have been streaming live multi-bit rate with Silverlight using Akamai as my CDN for serveral year

I started looking at various solutions for streaming multi bitrate flash, and being able to stream to other mobile devices as well.

My question is this, I started testing with a Kulabyte software encoder, and they recommended Wowza. With telecaster, will I be able to take my live stream into telestream, and setup wowza to push out the stream to Akamai, or would I be using Wowza's CDN?

Also, if I have the hardware to support it, can wowza, taking a single stream from telestream, send out multible streams for both pc and mobile viewing? I see the video tutorial on viewing locally, but how would this stream get pushed out for internet viewing?

At the moment, I cant see what the huge difference between Kulabytes is, and wowza, except for a bit more hands on setting up profiles, and the price.

    Thanks in advance

    Howard,

You can push a stream to Akamai using this package:

The Wowza transcoder will do what you are asking, single stream in from encoder and multiple streams out suitable for multi-bitrate streaming because they are perfectly key frame aligned.

When you say encoder, are you referring to telestream wirecast?

Also forgot to ask, do you use your own CDN for people who do not have a CDN to push to? I could see this working for limited traffic, but could add up for people who drive a lot of traffic...

No, Wowza does not have a CDN. There are CDNs on the partner page http://wowza.com/partners.html

And you can use Wowza on EC2.

EC2 can be used similarly to a CDN, but it's not exactly that. Yes, HLS streaming is supported on Wowza/EC2 servers

One feature is to support HLS streaming.
