    Default Wowza3 incompatibility with Apple's mediastreamvalidator?

    Hi everyone,

    We have an iPhone application that makes use of multi-bitrate streaming with SMIL files and it's working great on Wowza3.

    However, when we try to validate the streams with Apple's mediastreamvalidator we get errors like:
    mediastreamvalidator validate http://www.url.com:1935/app/smil:1.smil/playlist.m3u8
    Validating http://www.url.com:1935/app/smil:1.smil/playlist.m3u8 against iOS 5.0

    ERROR: Invalid URI scheme. Only http, https and file URIs are allowed.
     3:    /app/_definst_/mp4:1-1M.mp4/playlist.m3u8?wowzasessionid=632832971
           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ERROR: Invalid URI scheme. Only http, https and file URIs are allowed.
     5:    /app/_definst_/mp4:1-512K.mp4/playlist.m3u8?wowzasessionid=632832971
           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The SMIL file for this case is:
    <smil>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>
    <switch>
    <video src="mp4:1-1M.mp4" system-bitrate="1096000"/>
    <video src="mp4:1-512K.mp4" system-bitrate="608000"/>
    <video src="mp4:1-320K.mp4" system-bitrate="416000"/>
    <video src="mp4:1-128K.mp4" system-bitrate="224000"/>
    <video src="mp4:1-64K.mp4" system-bitrate="160000"/>
    <video src="mp3:1-Audio.mp3" system-bitrate="64000"/>
    </switch>
    </body>
    </smil>
    Any idea what might be wrong?

    TIA

    It looks like Apple has updated their validator tool and is choking on the prefixes we use in the URLs. I doubt it will be a problem when streaming. We will take a look at it when we have time.

    Hi Charlie,

    There is, indeed, no problem when streaming. But it rings all sorts of bells and alarms when an app is going through their approval process, as they specify very clearly the app has to pass those tests.

    Have you tried to submit your application with these errors/warnings? I have a feeling it will pass. The error is not really correct. You can try adding the property in this article to make these URLs absolute which should avoid these warnings:

    Hi Charlie,

    Thanks a lot for your help, now the mediastreamvalidator does not complain
