Default MP4 timed text + RTMP

    Hello,

I'm curious if it's possible to send embedded timed text captions with an RTMP stream. JW Player supports these captions, but they aren't being sent from Wowza.

JW Player captions reference -- halfway down is a section on MP4 text tracks

    Working example (not using RTMP)

    Thanks,

    Devin,

This file based method should work with Wowza, I don't see why not. But this is a different approach then "cuepoints" in a data track of a live stream or recording. You can inject cuepoints in a live stream and record them if the stream is being recorded by Wowza using this method:

You can add custom callbacks, but I was just looking in JW Player source and they have a built-in handler for "onCaption". So if you name your cuepoints "onCaption" and send them through with the above method, I think JW Player will display them for the live, and for later for the recorded file..

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I'm not doing a live stream. I have MP4 files with embedded timed text captions, and I'm curious if it's possible to send those captions with the stream. Is this method applicable to that scenario?

I'd like to send captions with HTTP Live Streaming as well, but this method appears to be specific to Flash.

    Thanks,
    Devin

Yes, Wowza supports cuepoints in flv and quicktime (.mp4, .mov, etc) files
