Thread: Startup package and scripting - S3 tools available?

Default Startup package and scripting - S3 tools available?

I'm putting together some custom startup packages for a client who wants to do load balancing and origin/edge. I'm finding that including everything I need to include makes my packages a little too big, so I'd like to store of what he needs in an S3 bucket then have a script in the package grab the required stuff for the conf and applications directories from S3.

What I'm not sure of is whether s3cmd or other S3 tools are available on a freshly-booted EC2 instance. Can anyone advise?

You can use the Download tag in the startup.xml file. You put a file on your web server, it can be zip file. It is covered in the Wowza/EC2 User Guide

Yes, I saw that. I was hoping to avoid having to go out to an FTP server in case the servers I have access to go down for any reason. S3 seems like it might have been a more reliable choice, but I guess making use of FTP should be adequate as well.

Thanks. I'll set up a means to do that via FTP.

You should be able to use S3 location in the Download tag. Make sure ACL Everyone is READ
