Thread: Configuring S3 MediaCache on a self-built WMS 3 AMI

Default Configuring S3 MediaCache on a self-built WMS 3 AMI

I'm in the process of tuning my own custom built AMI's for EC2 using WMS 3.0.5, and I wanted to know how to add the MediaCache plug-in to recreate the vods3 app of a dev-pay AMI. I noticed in the WMS3 EC2 PDF that S3FS is mentioned as additional software installed with the devpay/lickey AMIs. Is it as simple as copying the MediaCache JAR and config file from a devpay/lickey AMI into my own AMI setup? Or are there other steps?

    Robert,

S3FS is separate from MediaCache. Start here:

Richard, thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with S3FS, but I couldn't find any reference to S3FS in tuning guides for WMS EC2, or in any of the params in MediaCache.xml. Do I just need to make sure it's installed in order for MediaCache to reference it internally from its Java class?

    Robert,

No, MediaCache does not use S3FS. The most common use for S3FS with Wowza is to move a file after recording of a live stream is finished using the ModuleMediaWriterFileMover

I think this got a little off point. There is no connection between S3FS and MediaCache. If you want to configure MediaCache to work similar to vods3, redownload MediaCache (just to be sure you have the latest version) and the most recent MediaCache guide should describe the process.

Thank you both for the feedback! It seemed to be working with my config, and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some connection to S3FS. Your awesome responsiveness is just one of the many reasons I love your product, and more importantly, I love facilitating its use with my clients. You really have an invaluable technology that the best online video experiences need to succeed.
