Cerevo LiveShell RMTP Live Video Streaming

Cerevo Liveshell recently announced support April 22nd 2012 for an RMTP server to enhance the support of it’s wireless streaming capability.

Given the wide support that Wowza provides do you see any issues in supporting this product?

Howard,

Yes, it looks like it should work:

following this tutorial

Bruce,

I don’t know about Liveshell, but there is a super-easy player for non-technical users that works with Wowza RTMP or Flash HTTP (sanjose)

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-use-strobe-media-playback-with-a-wowza-media-server

Richard

Is there a place for an RTMP connection string? And is there place for a stream name? Connection string take this form:

rtmp://[wowza-address]:1935/[app-name]

Take a look at the JW Player guide, there must be some equivalent in your player:

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-use-longtail-jw-player-5-with-wowza-media-server

Or, is there a place for the connection string and stream name as one string?

Richard

I made some testing with that device. So first I had to make an update via the Liveshell website to be able to connect to my Wowza instance, but I must say I am very surprised about the overall simplicity and reliability of this very cheap gadget. The cons: - very bad encoding quality - haven’t been able to get the stream started for mobile (/playlist.m3u8) = that awful moment when u realize that it’s not .h264 / AAC lol. So I’ll be seeking the forum for a possible workaround… By the way Wowza you rock!!

When you choose “other boradcasting service” in Liveshell, the interface will prompt you to do an upgrade. After this you’ll have the regular mask just kike with Livu, FLME so:

Broadcasting RTMP URL: rtmp://YOUR-SERVER/YOUR-APP

Stream: mylivestream.sdp

(And if you want to watch the stream in the Liveshall interface via the integrated FlowPlayer)

Browsing RTMP URL: rtmp://YOUR-SERVER/YOUR-APP/mylivestream.sdp

However no credentials could be set up so far…

oh and while setting up, the device must be connected via Lan or Wifi as the settings are done on the fly by the Liveshell website and Cerevo is gently watching over you

Broadcasting RTMP URL should be: rtmp://YOUR-SERVER/YOUR-APP (for instance rtmp://192.168.0.1/live - check if you need the trailing / after live)

Stream: the name you want for the stream (like “mylivestream”)

Browsing RTMP url shouldn’t be something you need but it could be rtmp://YOUR-SERVER/YOUR-APP/mylivestream

Have you figure out how to get it to work with /playlist.m3u8 or transcoding…

Would be fantastic if you could produce an updated step by step (hand holding) tutorial dealing specifically with Liveshell -> Wowza on Amazon -> a player for us non tech types

I have a Liveshell unit attached to a camera and all set to configure and I’d would be more than willing to assist in anyway

tks Bruce

Yes thank you for the link

Of course setting up the cerevo Liveshell to stream to a wowza media server is the first step and that’s not covered anywhere and as I indicated above, I have a unit on my desk and if someone would work with me on filling in the blanks perhaps with gmail chat I could get this project going which will result in more wowza devpay instances for you

Your assistance is very welcome

Here is a screen capture of the info being requested by the LiveShell’s web-based dashboard

thks

I’ll give that a shot and see what turns up

Hi Simbapro

How exactly did you connect your liveshell to the instance

thanks

Hi,

Anyone using this encoder combined with Wowza for a 24/7 service?

I am facing a possible compatibility issue.

We’ve got Wowza 4.0.5 transmuxing UDP->RTMP, 10+ channels flawlessly for over 6 months.

To the same “Application”, we recently added a single stream from LiveShellPro.

Since this day, the memory usage which was stable till then began incrementing by about 300MB/day, until today it consumed 100% physical memory.

Removing LiveShellPro from the chain reduced “Wowza Heap Used” almost instantly.

I don’t want to blame either product right away having some custom plug-ins running on this server, but thought I’d ask.

Thank you.

Edit: We are using a “LiveShellPro”. I figure this is different from the “LiveShell (Non-Pro)”.

Either case, would appreciate experiences shared. Thank you.
