Thread: streaming from s3/mediacache from the closet location

Default streaming from s3/mediacache from the closet location

Lets say I mount two regions s3 as the file servers on my dedicated server. When I stream from media cache, will it stream from the closet region to the user?

No, there is nothing built-in like that. If you want close proximity select same region for EC2 instance and S3 bucket

What if I use Google's location detection to guess where the user is located then stream to the user from s3 region that is close to them

Sounds like a viable, good solution. You would do that with client and/or application server without involving Wowza. You are just trying to form the stream name part correctly, to point to a close bucket.

a problem with that approach is that you will pay the latency between the client and the ec2 instance. A lower latency architecture might be to have two servers, one on each coast and then to use AWS route 53 latency based routing to address both of the instances.
