Thread: can I stream to ios with example.xml

  1. #1

Default can I stream to ios with example.xml

    I have a player here: http://afribox.com/player/

The xml its using is http://afribox.com/player/example.xml

It uses RTMP Streaming Dynamic Streaming http://www.longtailvideo.com/support...namicstreaming

Can I use http://afribox.com/player/example.xml and files to stream a multi-bitrate for ios? or do I have to re-encode orginal video for apple .M3U8 playlist?

Check here for encoding types supported by iOS.

If your files are not H.264 and MP3 or AAC, then you would need to re-encode. JWPlayer does support streaming to iOS.

Maybe, I am not asking the right questions or you are not understanding me.

Take a look at http://afribox.com/player/example.xml. It works with jw flash player. It's RTMP Streaming Dynamic Streaming

Is it possible to convert or use http://afribox.com/player/example.xml to stream a multi-bitrate for iphone/ipad ios?

Multi-bitrate streaming to iOS device is done with a smil file. Take a look at the video on demand tutorial, the multi-bitrate section:

    1)

so with smil, I dont need to re-encode the files for HTTP Live Streaming (iOS Adaptive Streaming) m3u8?

I can just use multiple mp4 h264 files pre-encoded for Flash, the iOS devices and Silverlight?

    2. Can smil to Apple iOS device be secured?

The files need to be properly encoded with aligned key frames. Take a look at the suggested encoding with Expression 4 Encoderhttp://www.wowza.com/forums/content.php?192-Encoding-Suggestions-for-Video-on-Demand

The smil itself is not secured, but you can use AES encryption with cupertino streaming

I understand that all the files need to be aligned key frames. however you did not answer my question

If I convert my files using Expression 4 Encoder in multiple bit-rate mp4 files. Can I use those files for rmtp stream, hls iOS streaming, silverlight streaming, use one baseline file for mobile rtsp streaming?

The reason why I ask is because right now I convert my videos using Expression 4 Encoder in multiple bit-rate. Then I also convert the video into HLS Variant Segmented stream. Now if I convert my files to multiple bit-rate by Expression 4 Encoder do I really need to separately encode for HLS Variant Segmented stream also - if the multiple bit-rate files can work for iOS?

This is what we suggest for encoding with Expression 4 Encoder. Multiple files, not multi-bitrate file if that is what you are doing. Also avoid the Silverlight encoding path, which produces fragmented mp4, which work but with added overhead

No you don't need to separately encode for HLS Variant Segmented stream. The Wowza server will provide a segmented stream.
