Default performance tuneup suggestions for vps

    Hi,

We ordered 4 core + 6 GB VPS but we are seeing lot of issues. I did followed suggestions for performance tunning as documented but wowza http keeps crashing on this vps server.

    CentOS 6.2
    JDK 7
Wowza Media Server 3 Monthly Edition 3.1.2 build1624

java heap size is set to 5GB now (http is stable now but crashes as soon as we send traffic to it)

We have 2 apps, one with 30 streams (liverepeater-edge) and another live app with about 70+ streams.

This all streams are running all the time on all servers under stream manager. No custom module installed on vps wowza server.

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    Hi
What kind of vps software are you using?
What exactly do you mean "http is stable now but crashes as soon as we send traffic to it"?
How many concurrent connections do you get for the app and for the server?

    1. We are not sure about VPS host machine software but I believe VPS is built on Xen Hypervisor
    2. from http I mean wowza runs stable till there is no viewers on it.
    3. Hardly 100 concurrent users.
    4. Doing RTMP only.

    Hi
Do you have any custom code or modules? I would try changing the Java heap size to 4 or 4.5Gb to see if that helps.
If that's unsuccessful in solving this issue, open a ticket and zip up your /conf and /logs and send them to support@wowza.com

100 incoming streams is very high. There are other limitations on incoming streams. You probably need another server to split this load.

    Hi Richard,

Please elaborate limitations as we have other servers with 100+ incoming streams with no issues

    Thanks,

Do the problems with this VPS correlate with the number of incoming streams? If so, what is the level? Are your other high volume servers handling about 100 streams? That is high but doable, I have heard of higher, but I am sure you know that the usual limiting factor of bandwidth for outgoing streams does not apply to ingress. CPU and RAM are limiting factors. You have to find the level that your server can handle, tune or add resources to improve.
