Default Activating a Wowza Media Server on an EC2 Instance

How do you activate the wowza media server on the ec2 instance.

I want to secure-stream videos on demand from a storage directory on my ec2 instance. I have downloaded a "start-up" package but am not sure I've installed it properly, etc.

The easiest way is to use a Wowza pre-built AMI. There are the devpay AMIs with embedded license (which means the EC2 costs are marked up slightly to cover licensing) Or you can use one of the License Key (lickey) AMIs, which you supply a paid subscription or perpetual license, and only pay base EC2 charges.

The startup packages are used when you start one of these AMIs using the AWS console. Details are in the EC2 guides:

You can also just install Wowza on an EC2 server. You won't be able to use a startup package in that case.

    Hello,
I have been using the Wowza server on EC2 for over a year now and I would like to setup another one for an organization, but after the registration I tried to subscribe normally and it came with an error: This version of Wowza Media Server 3 - Embedded License (PAID) is not available to new customers. Is there any way to run wowza EC2 as a new customer without installing on your computer.

    Hi,

It sounds like you are trying to use the license key from your former/original instance in a new instance. Take a look at this list of pre-built AMI's. This article describes the basic EC2 license configurations and provides several pre-configured AMI's referenced by license type and location. Selecting the links on this page will open your EC2 Management Console where you can startup instances in EC2 using your AWS account.

Wowza does not require a relationship with a local computer in order to function in EC2. The entire process is cloud-based and should be managed remotely. For more information on Wowza for EC2, please take a look at the EC2 User's Guide.
