    Default Adaptive Streaming: What do we need?

    Hi...i can't find what we need for adaptive streaming.
    -We will publish multibitrate stream throught Flash Media Live Encoder to Wowza
    -on wowza we need smil file
    And what is our next step? How can we play this stream in a flash aplication? I know how to play simple stream but this is different...
    I want to know who decides what stream to use (what bitrate)??? Does wowza changes streams on her on or we do that from the app...

    Thanks,
    Jovan

    Jovan,

    You can play the .smil in Flash HTTP (sanjose). For testing you can use the Wowza example /LiveVideoStreaming/clientOSMF, or use the Flash Playback Player following this guide, see the "Flash HTTP (Sanjose) Streaming" section:
    http://www.wowza.com/forums/content....a-Media-Server

    The configuration and playback URLs for sanjose (and smooth and cupertino which also support multi-bitrate using Wowza .smil file) are in the RTMP live tutorial
    http://www.wowza.com/forums/content....-based-encoder

    For Flash RTMP you have to use RTMP Dynamic streaming. JW Player has a good implementation of this. You don't play the .smil directly as you would in sanjose, but there is a Wowza technique for leveraging the server-side .smil:

    Thanks Richard
    I didn't hope for such fast replay... I'm going on a business trip next week, and after that i will start building my app. If i have some other question i will ask it...
    This is a starting point...thanks
    Just to ask...this work for a live streaming to???

    Richard,
    I checked all this and i had stream it in sanjose and cupertino whiit a delay of 15-20 sec. Is this normal or can i do something to change it?
    And if i want to play a smil file on android how can i do that? Which url i use?

    This delay can be reduced by changing the stream's key frame frequency and corresponding cupertinoChunkDurationTarget and sanjoseChunkDurationTarget following these guides:

    http://www.wowza.com/forums/content....tinostreaming)

    http://www.wowza.com/forums/content....josestreaming)

    To change key frame frequency click the little wrench next to Format "h.264" setting. You can switch to Baseline 3 where also, which is recommended for cupertino.

    I did this and i set chunkDuration for sanjose to 5000 and my applications is live-lowlatency and i had set these properties in stream
    <Property>
    <Name>flushInterval</Name>
    <Value>2</Value>
    <Type>Integer</Type>
    </Property>
    <Property>
    <Name>onFlushNotifyClients</Name>
    <Value>true</Value>
    <Type>Boolean</Type>
    </Property>

    First i had a delay of 15 sec that is not that bad, but when i open another /LiveVideoStreaming/clientOSMF delay on that is doubled to 30 sec. Then i stop first player, play it again and delay is 30 sec on it too. What is happening???
    Keyframe is 2 sec...

    If the key frame frequency is 2 seconds make the sanjoseChunkDurationTarget a multiple of 2000: 2000, 4000, 6000...

    Hi, Richard

    We've got this problem too with OSMF 2.0 (clientOSMF/bin-release/SimpleOSMFPlayer.html)
    Our keyframe is 1 second and we set sanjoseChunkDurationTarget to 4000. But we encounter this problem after some time (~5 min)
    What can you suggest?

    Richard, I've started new thread: http://www.wowza.com/forums/showthre...443#post102443
    The problem is that player stops receiving chunks. But nobody knows why. So please help.
