    Default Help passing data to Flash Player Please

    Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
    Is there a way to tell Flash Player that there is no sound being sent? I want to change the color of a panel when sound is present and change it back when it isn't.
    I'm using the Flashphoner Client/Server and I need the client to be informed that the channel is silent. I've tried to accomplish this in the client app but no matter what I try, I cannot get it to work.
    If Wowza can tell the client that actual audio packets are being sent, my client can act on that information. I tried listening to the audio like this:
    public function startTimer():void{
    var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(1000);

    public function test(event:TimerEvent):Number{
    var nsi:NetStreamInfo =;
    if (nsi.playbackBytesPerSecond != 0){
    return nsi.playbackBytesPerSecond;

    No luck.
    Please forgive my ignorance. I just want to learn.
    Thank you very much for the guidance!

    You can detect levels in Flash/Flex. See this section of the Flex docs.

    Maybe you could configure your app to send audio data on a keypress, then use RPC/shared objects to notify the other clients that someone is transmitting. See the Wowza User Guide section "Adobe Flash Streaming and Scripting" for more info.

    Thank you so much for the help.
    Each client has a toggle mute/unmute button.
    Again, forgive my ignorance. How might I accomplish this?
    Thanks again!

    Thank you Randall!
    Your suggestion is precisely the solution I was seeking. I used RSOs and Microphone Activity and all is working well.
