Default Options to serve JPG images using wowza

My application stores JPG thumbnail images in the same file system as wowza videos.

It appears that there is no default method of serving non-video assets using Wowza. Can someone please confirm that?

If that is the case, is it good practice to make a custom HttpProvider for serving non-video binary content?
    i.e. http://www.wowza.com/forums/content....n-HTTPProvider

Or would it be preferred to set up a dedicated web server for these images?

    Thanks
    Keith

    Hi Keith,

"is it good practice to make a custom HttpProvider"
Best practice is to only use an HTTPProvider for low-volume, non-latency dependent use-cases that require access to Wowza server internals.

"Or would it be preferred to set up a dedicated web server for these images?"
    Yes.

That's right. Wowza serves video and audio streams.

You can use something like ffmpeg to generate videos from a single image or series of still images. But, that seems bandwidth inefficient. A regular webserver is probably your best bet, but I can't say for sure without knowing all your requirements. If you need access to the internal Wowza information, maybe you can use a Wowza HTTPProvider in conjunction with a regular Web Server.

Randall, thanks for the response. It makes a lot of sense that custom HTTPProviders would be best utilized for "low-volume, non-latency dependent use-cases that require access to Wowza server internals".

In our case we do not need access to any Wowza internal functionality or metadata, so I think we will pursue the web server path.
