Default Bandwidth estimation from client to server

    Hi Guys,

I am actually trying to test this module to see the results. (http://www.wowza.com/forums/content.php?252)

I am using a network limiter tool which I can set what ever speed I want.

I see that the same results are appearing for both 10KB and 40MB (upload and download) network speed. I am mainly looking at latency numbers and both 10K and 40M are always near to same.

Am I missing anything here ?

    Thanks,
    Sri

    Hi
The module you're testing only does a bandwidth check across the network by sending a packet which goes to the other end and back, because this packet is smaller than 10KB the limit you're setting wont make a difference to the test. If you set a file transfer across the network and then do the test it should give you a different reading as the network will be busy (over your limit).

    Thanks for the reply.

So the file size should be more than the network speed which is between client and server. In this case, How do I decide the file size to transmit as we don't know the network capacity ?

    Hi
The limit you are setting is on the PC you're using so if you send a 1Gb file and limit the speed to 10Kb it will take you about 10 days which should be enough time for any testing.
Of course i assume you can change the limit you've set if you're done before 10 days and it will finish much faster.

The latency between client and server is dependent on the network speed which is not what you're changing.
