    Default utf8 problem with wowza on ubuntu

    I'm not able to stream file paths where utf8 characters are involved..

    from my error log file
    WARN server comment 2012-11-18 13:16:48 - - - - - 1815624.224 - - - - - - - music/Baroque/H?ndel, Georg Frederich/H?ndel Water Music/Water Music.m4a MediaReaderH264.open[1]: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /storage/media/music/Baroque/H?ndel, Georg Frederich/H?ndel Water Music/Water Music.m4a (No such file or directory)

    the file in question exists:
    mp4:music/Baroque/Händel, Georg Frederich/Händel Water Music/Water Music.m4a

    and I'm able to stream other mp4 audio files without problem

    any suggestions????

    Ubuntu 12.04

    Wowza 3.1.2

    *@server:~# locale
    LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    LANGUAGE=
    LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_ALL=

    Is it because LC_ALL is blank????

    Wowza is all utf-8 and can handle umlauts, etc and glyphs of any type. The problem is probably your browser or player. For Flash, make sure this meta tag is in the head tag of the html container:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

    except that this happens even when using the live.swf player from the wowza examples.
    looking at the error log it seems to be a java io error

    running java version:
    *@server:~# java -version
    java version "1.6.0_24"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.5) (6b24-1.11.5-0ubuntu1~12.04.1)
    OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

    I created those two folders then placed the Wowza sample.mp4 file at both levels and had no problem playing it back with the Wowza example live player, connected to a vod (StreamType "default") application to play back a the file. What I see in the logs you posted is the non-ascii character was turned into "?" and Wowza is therefore looking for a file with the wrong name. Wowza did not do this, it got the name that way. It does not happen in the default example Wowza players in my test. Are you running it in a html container that does not have the meta tag I showed?

    This works for me:
    Server: rtmp://[wowza-address]:1935/vod
    Stream: mp4:BaroqueHändel, Georg Frederich/Händel Water Music/sample.mp4

    INFO session connect 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1 -
    INFO stream play BaroqueHändel, Georg Frederich/Händel Water Music/sample.mp4
