    Question Chat and Users List

    Hi.
Does anybody have a practice of creation a chat for 10,000 users in one room with the user list? I need it very much!

    Thanks.

    Hi,

The best method I can suggest would use a Server Listener which maintains an object store which applications can reference. It will use possibly more memory but should scale. Alternatively if you can stand a little latency an external data store so SQL server accessable via HTTP requests, possibly using both in tandem, so with a HTTP Provider in Wowza so the server listener can then poll the SQL server for updates.

To get to 10,000 is quite high, but using an external method you could scale across multiple servers.

It sounds complex, and would need some work, but very do-able.

    Andrew.

    Hi,

This is not something we provide specific examples for as it would take some work to get going.

A couple of tutorials, which would need significant work, which could be used as a framework

and the shared object example which could then be modified

Technical concerns aside, a chat for 10,000 active participants would be more or less useless from a human perspective. Even if only 10% of the users are actively participating, it would be nearly impossible for someone to make sense of the volume of messages. Same goes for a user list... digging through 10,000 records in a real time manner is more than most people would be able to manage

What is the use case? It might make better sense to have some sort of moderation queue to control the flow of messages and how those messages are presented to the end users.
