We discussed this, and you're right that there is discrepancy between the auto-tuning and the tuning guide. It is something that we will look at improving, it has been added to the backlog. Meanwhile you can fine-tune directly or using a startup package if you know what instance type you are going to start.

    Thanks for the report,

    Hi Richard,

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it.

In the meantime how do I calculate the total-core-count for a M1 Medium Instance?

    Kind Regards,

The link you provided gives this info on the M1 Medium Instance
    M1 Medium Instance
    3.75 GiB memory
    2 EC2 Compute Unit (1 virtual core with 2 EC2 Compute Unit)
    410 GB instance storage
    32-bit or 64-bit platform
    I/O Performance: Moderate
    EBS-Optimized Available: No
    API name: m1.medium
I think "1 virtual core" means that it only has a total of 1 core available.
