Default Checking if live streaming is in progress

I would like to display a http live stream on my webpage such as http://<servername>:1935/live/myStream
That stream is not always on, rarely actually. So I would like to display a default VOD stream instead while there is no live stream.

So my question is how do I get the informations that http://<servername>:1935/live/myStream is ON or OFF ?

    Thank you for your answers.

Take a look at this article on How to loop a pre-roll until a live stream starts. I think this is what you're looking for.

    Thanks Tim,

I have several live streams (many actually) and for each of them I would like to play a different stream.
Obviously setting that information Application.xml file won't do. Do you know if there are any url_query based solutions ?
My first idea some sort of ping request and handle this issue in the playback app (HTML5). I would like to avoid "hacking" into the Java Code since this is not quite my favorite programming language.

At least you link gave me a better knowledge of what Wowza is capable of.

There isn't anything else like this. You could use one application for each stream with different settings. Or extend the example.
