    Default Server Build for Chat Application

    Hi all. New to Wowza. Looking at having a dedicated server for our chat application. Currently around 200 connections, some with web cam. We've been offered this server build below. Would appreciate any feedback or thoughts on this. Thanks in advance. WB

    Xeon Quad Core 2.40 Ghz
    4GB RAM
    1 x SATA - 80 GB HDD
    OS = Ubuntu
    Wowza Media Server
    1000 Mbps Bandwidth

    It depends on how large the groups. If it is all 1 to 1 chat, it should be adequate. But if it is many to many, depending on how many, resource usage will increase. You cannot load test for chat, you just have to estimate and monitor. Make sure you are well tuned.

    Note that 1gbs nic will probably only yield about 800mbs throughput. Bandwidth is usually the limiting factor.

    Thanks Richard. Would you suggest we start with 2 x Quad core processes, or would that be overkill?

    It can't hurt.
