    Default Java NullPointerException following installation

    Hi All,

I have just installed Wowza on Solaris 10, java 1.6. When I run startup.sh, I get the following error:

    root:/usr/local/WowzaMediaServer/bin# ./startup.sh
    Error creating class loader: java.lang.NullPointerException
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.wowza.wms.bootstrap.Bootstrap.createClassLoader(Unknown Source)

    at com.wowza.wms.bootstrap.Bootstrap.main(Unknown Source)

    root:/usr/local/WowzaMediaServer/bin#
    root:/usr/local/WowzaMediaServer/bin# java -version
    java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode)
    root:/usr/local/WowzaMediaServer/bin#

Any idea what could be causing this?

    Thanks
    Doug

    Hi Doug,

I recommend updating to the latest version of Java:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/ja...ads/index.html

Then make sure you are using the new version:
After installing latest Java version, java command is still using old Java (fix)

And if this doesn't work you may need to reinstall Wowza

Doug, did you make sure you are starting Wowza as root?

    Hi All,

Thanks for the suggestions. I updated java to the latest version:

    root:/usr/local/WowzaMediaServer/bin# java -version
    java version "1.7.0_21"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_21-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 23.21-b01, mixed mode)

and reinstalled, but it made no difference.

However, I've successfully installed on a Debian / SPARC platform, so I'm going to use that for the time being. Maybe once I have more time I'll revisit the Solaris / SPARC platform and see if I can get that running, but for now, I need to move on to configuration.

    Thanks for your help
    Doug
