Default Simplest way to record a live stream

Can anyone tell me if there is a basic setting I can apply to a config for a live stream so that whenever that config is used that the stream is recorded?

I am hoping there is something that can just go in my Application.xml but can only see options at present for using either the UI or the HTTP API which look great but would like to avoid in this instance.

Hi there, the very simplest way, which gives very little control is to change the StreamType to "live-record" in you Application.xml file

With this method the entire duration of the published stream is recorded. The files can be recorded as .flv or .mp4 by specifying a stream name prefix in the encoder.

EDIT: had a typo, (said .h264 but meant .mp4)

By default Wowza records to an .flv container.
But if you want to record to mp4, you can prefix the file like this:
     mp4:myStream

Thanks very much for the tip.

So where do the files get saved to and how do I tell if it is working OK?

The files are saved to the [install-dir]/content folder by default. You can change where the files are stored by editing the Application.xml file Storage field:
    <StorageDir>${com.wowza.wms.context.VHostConfigHome}/content</StorageDir>
Once you are done recording the live stream you can check your storage directory for the new file and play it back.
