Default always use Stream Manager to publish stream ?

In the tutorial it need to use the stream manager to start receiving stream, what's the purpose to use stream manager?
It seems not easy to control stream manager in publisher side by program.

    Hi,

The stream manager is used to start the upstream connection between Wowza and your Live source, in case you are pulling a stream from an encoder.
If you push a stream form a flash or rtsp encoder to Wowza, then you don't need to use the stream manager to enable the upstream connection.
Also, there is a way to automatically start the upstream connection to a live source (to pull a stream from an encoder) when the strever starts using the StarterupStream.xml file. Plese take a look at this article where it is explained how to use it: http://www.wowza.com/forums/content....upStreams.xml)

    Regards,

    Hello,
There seems 2 cases to get the upstream stream in the comments, one is pulling the stream from Wowza and another is pushing the stream by publisher (flash or encoder). Can you kindly give more info about the condition? why for some encoder we need to pull the stream by Wowza server either than push that by publisher? If the upstream is possible to generate/stop any time (ex: power up/down an IP Cam), does it make sense to pull the upstream by Wowza??
