Thread: latin-1 support in RTMP MetaData

    Default latin-1 support in RTMP MetaData

    When I connect to a Flashstream on Wowza 3.1.2 I have problems to extract non standard ASCII characters like äüöé and german "Umlauts" (like etc.) from NetStream.metadata.

    I receive a "little square" which is ASCII-65533 / UTF %uFFFD instead.

    How can I set Wowza Server to use latin-1 as source character code for metadata?

    Any ideas are very apprecitated because our metadata are displayed to users and used for affiliate link generation (amazon, itunes etc.).

    Jan,

    Wowza is all utf-8 already. These characters are being replaced somewhere else, perhaps the browser. Make sure the htmp container of your player has utf-8 meta tag in the head tag:

    <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    </head>

    I'm using Flash css prof, and the "little square" already shows up in the ouput of the Flash-css-prof-debugger of your / Wowzas "live.fla" client:

    nsPlay: NetStream.Play.Start (Started playing rtmp://wowza...)
    onMetaData
    artist = Olaf Henn

    and the little is the problem, that should be an ""

    URL encoded artist=Olaf+Henn%FC

    Any ideas?

    The rtmp-stream is up on
    rtmp://stream-7.antenne.de/liveedge
    stream-name: event

    I will leave it running with the encoded artist... artist = Olaf Henn - maybe you could check with your "live.fla" ?

    Thanks!

    Could you close the call? The problem most times is seated in front of the computer.
    Using the correct URL-Encoding is a fantastic way of getting correct "Umlaute".

    Sorry & thanks!

    Great, glad that's solved. Thanks for the update, Jan.
