Thread: Captions display on Android (4.03 or newer) in HLS streams

Default Captions display on Android (4.03 or newer) in HLS streams

Has anyone been successful in getting captions to show on Android devices that connect to HLS streams? I tried all permutations in the application.xml (ttml and vtt source files, cupertinoVODCaptionsUseWebVTT false and true) and all of it worked on iOS, but none ever display on Android, while the video does stream fine. Flash works fine, too. I assume this is a limitation on Android, but we need to know for sure, as we cannot promise captions to all users if that is the case.

Server used in my tests is the latest 3.6.2 build, Android is plain vanilla 4.03 as shipped from vendor, nothing else installed.

    Hi Peter,
This is still a limitation of Android as far as we are aware.
