Thread: Using simple stream names

    Default Using simple stream names

I try to exercise the simple stream naming on origin server but fail, please kindly help to identify what's wrong

    1. The following playback address would work fine
To play the stream in Adobe Flash Player (RTMP)

    Server: rtmp://[wowza-edge-address]:1935/liveedge
    Stream: rtmp://[wowza-origin-address]:1935/liveorigin/myteststream_20130712150337
    2. I want to short the 'myteststream_20130712150337', so I made a s1.stream on [install-path]/content of origin server and wrote 'myteststream' as its content
    s1.stream
    myteststream_20130712150337
    3. The following playback address would NOT work
    Server: rtmp://[wowza-edge-address]:1935/liveedge
    Stream: rtmp://[wowza-origin-address]:1935/liveorigin/s1.stream

I'd suggest using the StreamNameAlias AddOn. You'd simply add the pattern=alias in the aliasmap.play.txt file.

Alternatively you can rename your s1.stream to s1.play on your origin and then create a .stream file on the edge (s1.stream) and point it to your origin .play file. Then your playback would work as you requested.

    Hi,

Could I know what's wrong in my usage?
    Server: rtmp://[wowza-edge-address]:1935/liveedge
    Stream: rtmp://[wowza-origin-address]:1935/liveorigin/s1.stream
supposedly it would support .stream file on the origin server.. (according to the guide)
what's the limitation of .stream file on origin serve?

    Thanks

.stream files are for MediaCaster streams, for example IP cameras or mpeg-ts encoders, and origin streams pulled from an edge are MediaCaster streams. It looks like the source is an RTMP encoder for the origin, so you don't use a .stream file on that side. You can use .play file to alias a RTMP stream on the origin. On the edge you use a .stream file because the edge is pulling from a MediaCaster stream from origin.
