Thread: vods3 problem

    Default vods3 problem

    Hello,

    We are using WowzaMediaServer 3.5.2.

We are recording videos from an IP camera using the LiveStreamRecorder module.
We then copy the recorded files to S3 and use the vods3 application to access them.
We use the strobe media player or our android client to view the videos.

Most of the videos from the camera play fine but some videos from the same camera have problems both in strobe player and our android player.
The videos do not play and the strobe player gets stuck in buffering mode. Interestingly if you seek forward in the video using the seek bar the video starts to playing.

For videos that do not play we get exceptions like

    2013-08-20 18:55:29 EEST comment server ERROR 500 - MediaCacheHTTPByteReader.sendRequest[http://vmsvideocontent.s3.amazonaws....05607283.mp4]: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe _defaultVHost_ vods3 _definst_ 20952.352 [any] 1935 rtmp://54.246.89.106:1935/vods3 178.251.45.174 rtmp https://invidyo.com/vms/strobe/Strob...ayback-2_1.swf WIN 11,8,800,97 2107392770 3927 7264 - - - - - - - - - - - - - rtmp://54.246.89.106:1935/vods3 -

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Ozgur,

This ("java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe") appears to be a network issue. Are you sure it is associated with certain videos, and is reproducible?

Are there the same or similar problems with RTMP playback on the desktop?

What kind of playback are you doing in Android with the Strobe player? HDS (sanjose)? RTMP? RTSP?

What version of MediaCache are you using? You can see this in the startup lines of the access log, or in the version.txt file in the package you last downloaded?

Also, does this happen when you playback the 2nd time (i.e. when that video is cached)?

    Dear Richard,

Clarification: I am doing the experiment with Strobe Player in desktop. In addition to desktop I also tried the same videos with an android app that uses a different player and the result was the same. So it is not strobe player on android. Strobe on Desktop and another player on Android.

I have tried specific videos many times and I am sure that the issue is related to certain videos. However I have only seen the broken pipe exception once. So maybe the exception is related to something else.

And yes the issue is reproducible. The same videos fail all the time. If you want I can share a sample video that causes problems. However let me add that when I download the problematic videos, they play fine in VLC and Quicktime. I also analyzed videos that cause problems with the AVInaptic tool and there does not seem to be anything wrong with the encoding of the videos.

It happens no matter how many times I play the video. So even after the video is added to the cache the same thing happens.

About the media cache version, I saw these lines in the beginning of the log

    2013-08-21 17:15:09 EEST comment server INFO 200 - MediaCacheImpl.start[MediaCache] - - - 4.888 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

So I could not get the mediacahce version from here. Looking at the download package and version.txt I think the version is build 1411
    My Wowza Version - 3.5.2

    Any ideas?
    Thank you,

The current version of MediaCache is build 5900. So try re-downloading the package.
