    Default Wowza 3.6.2 internet access

Does Wowza require access to the internet to start? We would like to have it positioned behind our firewal with access to the local lan only but keep getting an error when we stop and restart that it needs inet access on port 80 to validate the license. thanks

Yes, Wowza does need access to the internet to check in with license server. You can configure a proxy server to do handle it.

We are using websence and the proxy settings do not appear to be working correctly. We are running wowza 3.6.2 on a windows platform and java 1.7(40). We tried opening the proxy to the ip of the wowza server but are still getting a licensing error when starting up the application. Is there any way to make this a standalone internal application that does not need to hit the inet every time it starts up? or is there any application support that can assist over the phone? we did notice that the credentials being sent by the application even when the proxy settings are configured by according to the link above are still using the local admin account. Please any help or assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks

Please send an email to and include a copy of your [install-dir]/conf and /logs folders as a .zip file (or other archive) so we can take a closer look at your configuration and server activity. Please include a reference to this post.

There are other licensing options, however, they are only made available on a case-by-case basis. We currently use this licensing tracking/validation mechanism with about 45% of the world's CDN industry, at many universities, and various large corporations in every industry (including some very large multi-national banks).
